BEST CAR, a Japanese automotive media outlet, revealed without citing the source that Mazda's new sports car will still use a front-engine, rear-wheel drive, just like the old RX. And the reason Mazda is reviving this sports car again may be because of its partner, Toyota.
The answer is the relationship between TOYOTA and MAZDA, which has lasted almost a decade and has seen cooperation through sharing car platforms in marketing for each other, such as the Toyota Yaris sold in Europe, which was renamed the Mazda 2, or the Mazda 2 in the United States, which was renamed the Scion, and Toyota's hybrid system was used in the CX-50 for the US market. In fact, both brands have a joint manufacturing plant in Alabama, United States, which produces the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-50.
The current fifth-generation Toyota Supra, which uses the same engine, platform, transmission, important interior parts, and production line as the BMW Z4, is in its final year of production.
Further information from Australian media reports that although senior executives around the world have yet to reveal the future of the Supra, Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia's head of sales and marketing, revealed that a new model is already under development, stating, "Let me be frank, the Supra as a model is unstoppable," Hanley said late last year. “People always say, ‘When’s the next one?’ But the day we launched the new one, we started thinking about the next one, so we’ll just have to wait and see when the new one comes out. “But I can tell you right now that the Supra is still going strong.”
