Lexus is giving its Japanese customers a special farewell gift in the form of the Lexus IS 500 Climax Edition, a limited-run model restricted to just 500 units. Designed to mark the end of the IS 500’s production, this edition features a number of upgrades to make its departure truly memorable.
A key highlight of the Climax Edition is its upgraded braking system, which includes 380 mm ventilated discs, six-piston Brembo calipers, and high-friction brake pads. These enhancements offer improved stopping power over the standard IS 500 and bring it in line with the more performance-oriented RC F Coupe. The car also rides on 19-inch matte black forged alloy wheels by BBS, the same set used on the U.S.-spec IS 500 Ultimate Edition and the Japan-exclusive F Sport Mode Black. To enhance exclusivity, Lexus is also offering a new exterior color called Neutrino Gray.
Inside, the cabin combines Ultrasuede and dimpled leather on the steering wheel and gear selector, with a black and red color theme. Other special touches include a unique analog clock pattern, a Climax Edition badge on the center console, and exclusive welcome graphics on the 8-inch digital display.
Despite being a special edition, the Climax retains the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing 472 horsepower and 535 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, just like the standard IS 500.
The IS 500 Climax Edition will be sold exclusively in Japan, with deliveries set to begin in August 2025, priced from ¥9,500,000 (approximately 2.1 million baht).
While Lexus has yet to reveal concrete details about a successor, rumors suggest the next-generation IS could transition to a fully electric platform, possibly with a dual-motor setup and available in both sedan and shooting brake body styles. However, the company’s direction will likely depend on evolving market demands, especially as hybrid vehicles continue to dominate.
