JAC Motors officially unveiled the right-hand-drive version of its plug-in hybrid pickup truck, the Hunter PHEV Australian Edition, at the 2025 Greater Bay Auto Show in China. This marks the global market debut of the model, which is based on the existing Hunter platform. The vehicle is set to go on sale in Australia as the first market, under the T9 PHEV nameplate, later this year.
The Hunter PHEV retains the bold styling of the standard internal combustion model, featuring split-type headlights and a black front grille. A blue-accented JAC badge distinguishes the PHEV variant from the regular version, while the removal of the red decorative tow hooks gives the front end a cleaner appearance. The Australian Edition also features aerodynamic alloy wheels (265/60 R18) and a redesigned cargo system with an integrated roof rack and roll bar for added utility.
Inside, the cabin has been modified for right-hand-drive configuration, featuring a new four-spoke steering wheel, rotary gear selector, and diamond-stitched leather seats. The dashboard includes a 7-inch driver information display and a 10.4-inch central touchscreen, along with modern features such as an electronic parking brake with Auto-Hold and multiple drive modes.
Under the hood, the Hunter PHEV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 160 kW (217 PS), working in conjunction with two electric motors — the front motor delivers 130 kW (176 PS) and the rear motor 150 kW (203 PS). The system provides all-wheel drive, and the vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery from Guoxuan High-Tech, offering over 100 kilometers of electric-only range.
