Car Design News on Instagram and the Cochespias forum have shared an uncamouflaged image of the next-generation 2026 Mazda CX-5, ahead of its official global debut expected in the coming months. The image confirms that the vehicle’s design closely resembles previously released renderings, showcasing a modern new look similar to its larger sibling, the Mazda CX-60.
The all-new Mazda CX-5, which marks the first major redesign in eight years, is expected to make its global debut between July and September 2025. The studio-like setting of the photo suggests that official information may be released soon. The Australian market launch is projected for late 2025 or early 2026, although the exact date has not yet been confirmed.
Key changes for the new CX-5:
-
Larger dimensions, built on upgraded underpinnings
-
Mazda’s in-house hybrid system
However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the hybrid variant will be available at launch in 2026. Mazda may wait until the next-generation SkyActiv-Z petrol engines become available, expected before the end of 2027.
The future of the 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines — previously available in some markets — remains uncertain. A fully electric version is reportedly under consideration. Meanwhile, Mazda’s new 3.3-litre inline-six petrol and diesel engines are unlikely to be offered in the CX-5 due to its continued use of a front-wheel-drive-biased platform, unlike rear-drive-based larger models.
Inside, the new CX-5 is expected to feature larger displays, more premium materials, and a broader suite of modern comfort and safety features. Further details about the 2026 Mazda CX-5 are set to be revealed closer to its global unveiling.
