The all-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2026 has been spotted during camouflaged road testing in Europe. Rumors suggest it may launch simply as the Pajero 2026, dropping the “Sport” badge to distinguish it from the previous generation. It’s also expected to feature more distinctive styling compared to the Triton, with which it’s likely to share its underpinnings.
Visually, the differences are quite noticeable — particularly the vertical headlight design. The new grille adopts more horizontal slats, while the front bumper features a rugged-style scuff plate. In profile, the side lines and window shapes look quite different from the Triton, and the wheelbase may be shorter. Interestingly, the rear design bears some resemblance to the Nissan Patrol, especially with the rear skid plate and vertical tail-light setup. However, Nissan has denied Mitsubishi access to its off-road platform.
If the new model launches as the Pajero and uses the same ladder-frame chassis as the Triton, it would mark the first time Pajero is not built on a monocoque structure since its first generation (1982–1991). Still, some reports suggest the new SUV may instead adopt a monocoque design based on an enlarged version of the CMF-CD platform, which also underpins the Outlander.
Under the hood, it’s expected to share the 2.4-liter 2 stage turbo diesel engine from the new Triton, producing 150 kW (203 PS) and 470 Nm of torque. A Mild Hybrid system may also be added — a feature that’s anticipated for the next-gen Triton as well.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero is expected to be officially revealed later this year, with Australian showroom arrivals slated for 2026.
