Subaru has unveiled a new three-row electric SUV called the Getaway, another battery-electric vehicle co-developed with Toyota, scheduled to go on sale in the United States in late 2026.
The model made its global debut at the 2026 New York Motor Show. The Getaway is Subaru’s fourth EV and serves as a twin to the next-generation Toyota Highlander. It offers seating for up to seven passengers, a driving range of over 482 km, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined output of 425 horsepower.
The Getaway will join Subaru’s growing EV lineup alongside the Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted, as part of the brand’s strategy to launch a total of eight electric models globally by 2028.
At launch, the Getaway will be equipped with a 95.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering an estimated range of around 482 km. In 2027, a Standard Range variant will follow, featuring a 77.0 kWh battery. It supports DC fast charging at up to 150 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Notably, the six-point front daytime running lights can also indicate charging status.
The vehicle features Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system with dual electric motors, delivering a combined 425 horsepower and a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of under 5 seconds. It comes standard with Dual-mode X-Mode, offering Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, along with Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control for enhanced off-road capability.
In terms of dimensions, based on the Toyota Highlander, the vehicle measures approximately 5,050 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width, 1,709 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. The Subaru Getaway is expected to be similar, though slightly taller due to its 210 mm ground clearance. Its overall size is slightly larger than the Kia EV9, with a cargo capacity of 1,291 liters (with the third row folded), compared to the EV9’s 1,233 liters.
Seating configurations include both 7-seat and 6-seat layouts (with second-row captain’s chairs). All seats come with heating, while the front and second-row seats offer ventilation on select variants.
Inside, the cabin is equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, dual wireless charging pads, four USB-C ports for rear passengers, and customizable ambient lighting with five selectable driving modes.
Exterior highlights include an illuminated Subaru logo on a body-colored closed grille, distinctive DRL signatures, and headlight washers. At the rear, a three-dimensional illuminated “SUBARU” badge is paired with unique taillight graphics. Roof rails are available on most variants, while alloy wheels come in 19- and 20-inch sizes. Flush door handles further enhance aerodynamic efficiency.
A comprehensive suite of safety features comes standard, including Blind Spot Monitoring, Emergency Stop Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Higher variants add features such as Front Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Park Assist, and a digital rearview mirror.
