CHERY and OMODA & JAECOO have announced progress on the construction of their new manufacturing plant in Nikhom Phatthana District, Rayong Province, Thailand. The plant spans 104 rai (~16.6 hectares) with a planned investment of approximately 5 billion THB. Production is scheduled to begin in Q3 of 2025, with an initial target of producing 80,000 units per year by 2028. The first model to be produced will be the JAECOO 6 EV, positioning the facility as a key production and export hub for Asia.
The plant will focus on Completely Knocked Down (CKD) production and will feature precision aluminum welding robots. Future investment plans include expanding production capacity, introducing additional electric and hybrid models from CHERY Group, and establishing an on-site paint shop by 2027. Local employment will be prioritized, starting with 150 Thai workers for a single production shift, with further expansion in line with the growth of Thailand’s EV market.
CHERY Automobile is also partnering with King Gen Public Company Limited (KGEN) under the guidance of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and the Ministry of Commerce. This collaboration aims to develop a Thai national EV brand and elevate the local automotive industry into a regional EV manufacturing hub in ASEAN.
The partnership focuses on enhancing domestic EV technology capabilities, integrating Thai parts manufacturers into the global supply chain, and promoting locally made EVs tailored to the Thai market. Key selling points include cutting-edge technology and accessible pricing, making EVs more affordable for Thai consumers.
Additionally, by leveraging tax benefits as a “Thai national car,” the project aims to optimize pricing structures and stimulate the domestic production ecosystem — from parts sourcing and job creation to expanding the nationwide after-sales service network.
