Detailed information about the new Volvo XC70, which returns as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), has been revealed through regulatory filings in China.
Volvo unveiled the exterior design of the XC70 earlier this month, but has yet to share many technical details. What we do know is that the XC70 will come equipped with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain and will be the first Volvo model to use the company’s all-new Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform.
The Volvo XC70 will feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 160 horsepower, developed by Geely and Volvo, and manufactured under the Aurobay joint venture with Renault. This engine is already used in several models from Geely and Lynk & Co, typically paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. While details of the electric motor(s) remain undisclosed, it’s reported that the XC70 can reach a top speed of 180 km/h.
There will be two battery options available. The base model will come with a 21.22 kWh LFP battery, offering a 100 km electric-only range under the CLTC standard. The higher-end variant will feature a 39.63 kWh NMC battery, allowing for a 180 km electric-only range, also based on CLTC measurements. The version with the smaller battery weighs around 2,110 kg, while the long-range variant comes in at 2,275 kg. Depending on the trim level, the XC70 will ride on 19-, 20-, or 21-inch alloy wheels.
Volvo XC70 Dimensions:
-
Length: 4,815 mm
-
Width: 1,890 mm
-
Height: 1,650 mm
-
Wheelbase: 2,895 mm
From these dimensions, it’s clear that the XC70 is positioned between the XC60 and the XC90. Its height is similar to both models, while its width is slightly narrower.
