China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has revealed images of the facelifted Ford Explorer, which is set to debut in China soon.
In terms of design, the exterior remains familiar but features a refreshed front end with slimmer headlights featuring horizontal graphics, connected by an illuminated light bar. Below that is a flatter and wider grille with new detailing. The front bumper has been redesigned from soft curves to an H-shaped form, accompanied by vertical air inlets that appear integrated with the grille thanks to black accent elements.
The sides remain largely unchanged, although Ford may offer newly designed wheels, and some variants will come with a contrasting black roof. At the rear, updates are subtle, with a new bumper featuring vertical accents, while the exhaust outlets are now hidden beneath the vehicle for a cleaner look.
For performance, Ford states in its MIIT filing that the Explorer will use a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 290 hp, 445 Nm of torque, and a top speed of 200 km/h. It is expected to remain paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Based on the timeline, Ford is expected to officially unveil and launch the model in China in the first quarter of next year.
