Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has launched the “Mitsubishi Destinator,” a new midsize SUV, in Indonesia. This model will also be introduced in other ASEAN markets, including Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as in South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
While the exterior might resemble recent spy shots of the upcoming Pajero, the Destinator is entirely different as it is the production version of the Mitsubishi DST concept. Key highlights include a front-wheel-drive (FWD) platform adapted from the Xforce, a Dynamic Shield grille, T-shaped LED daytime running lights and taillights, a hexagonal Hexaguard Horizon rear design, 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 225/55R18 tires, front and rear disc brakes, and a rack-and-pinion electric power steering.
Inside, it features three-row seating for seven passengers, a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) screen, and an 8-inch digital driver display. The audio system is the Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium with 8 speakers, acoustically tuned by Yamaha. The second-row seats fold 40:20:40, and the third-row seats fold 50:50. There are foldable tables and storage pockets on the back of the front seats, along with Type A and Type C USB ports.
The Mitsubishi Destinator is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged MIVEC gasoline engine delivering 163 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm, paired with a CVT automatic transmission. It features a water-cooled intercooler and an Atkinson cycle system. The front suspension uses MacPherson struts, while the rear has a torsion beam.
