The Bear 650 draws inspiration from Eddie Mulder, also known as “Fast Eddie,” the winner of the 1960 Big Bear Run at just 16 years old — still the youngest winner in the event’s history. That year’s race took place in the harsh Mojave Desert, with over 1,000 participants. Only 197 managed to finish, and Eddie led the pack riding a Royal Enfield Fury 500cc, crossing the finish line in 4 hours and 21 minutes — a feat remembered even 64 years later.
The Bear 650 is powered by Royal Enfield’s renowned 650cc parallel-twin engine, delivering a maximum output of 47 bhp (34.6 kW) at 7,250 rpm and peak torque of 56.5 Nm at 5,150 rpm. It offers stronger mid-range performance than other Twins, complemented by a newly designed 2-into-1 exhaust that broadens the torque band and reduces weight.
In true scrambler style, the Bear 650 features vintage block-pattern tires, a scrambler-style seat, upswept rear subframe, number plates, and increased ground clearance. A special color, Two Four Nine, pays tribute to Eddie’s legendary racing number, 249.
The motorcycle is also equipped with Showa USD Big Piston front forks with 130 mm of travel, Showa Twin Tube RSU rear shocks with 115 mm of travel, 184 mm of ground clearance, a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel, and dual-purpose tires for both road and light off-road use.
Modern touches include the latest TFT Tripper Dash display, black aluminum control buttons, and an intuitive joystick controller.
