Hankook Tire Thailand, the main sponsor of the B-Quik Thailand Super Series motorsport event, showcased its latest tire innovations at the Bangsaen Grand Prix, one of Thailand’s premier motorsport events.
Hankook Tire presented two key product lines:
-
iON Tire Line: High-performance tires specifically developed for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).
-
Dynapro AT2 Xtreme: All-Terrain (A/T) tires designed for optimal performance and durability on both paved roads and off-road terrains.
The main highlight at the event was the display of iON GT SUV tires, mounted on the BYD ATTO 3, the best-selling electric vehicle in Thailand.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are significantly heavier than conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles due to their large battery packs, which places more pressure on the tires—especially when using standard tires. Hankook Tire's iON series is engineered with reinforced structures and special compounds to handle this increased weight, offering durability, safety, and peak performance under heavy loads.
The display drew considerable interest, with many attendees expressing concerns about the short lifespan of their current EV tires. To address these concerns, Hankook Tire emphasized the iON line’s low rolling resistance, which not only extends driving range but also improves overall energy efficiency.
Furthermore, electric vehicles deliver instant torque, which can accelerate tire wear. Hankook’s iON products are developed with advanced rubber compounds and specially optimized tread patterns to maintain grip and durability even under demanding conditions. Additionally, Hankook Tire’s iSound Absorber technology reduces road noise during driving, enhancing comfort and the overall driving experience.
Currently available iON models in Thailand include the iON evo and iON evo AS, designed for high-performance EV driving, and the iON GT, which is tuned for extended range and energy efficiency. The iON ST AS, which focuses on maximizing driving range, is scheduled to launch in Thailand soon.
