Peugeot has officially unveiled the E-208 GTi at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, marking the return of the GTi badge after a six-year hiatus — and for the first time, it’s being used on a fully electric vehicle. While the standard 208 is still offered with both petrol (ICE) and electric powertrains, Peugeot has hinted at the possibility of a combustion-engine 208 GTi variant in the future. For now, however, the brand is continuing its strong focus on electrification.
The E-208 GTi is powered by an electric motor manufactured in France, delivering 209 kW (208 PS) and 345 Nm of torque to the front wheels — a significant upgrade over the standard model’s 115 kW (156 PS). It comes equipped with a limited-slip differential at the front, accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h. The 54 kWh battery, supplied by CATL, offers a driving range of up to 350 km (WLTP standard) and supports charging at up to 7.4 kW AC and 100 kW DC.
The e-208 GTi rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (215/40), with the wheel design inspired by the iconic "pepperpot" wheels from the classic 205 GTi. Peugeot notes that the design not only pays homage to its heritage but also helps cool the braking system. The front brakes feature upgraded 355 mm discs with red-painted four-piston calipers, while the rear brakes remain unchanged. The GTi version also has a 30 mm lower ride height and a wider track — 56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear — compared to the standard e-208.
Exterior design tweaks include a larger rear spoiler, a body-colored strip beneath the grille, and red accents on the grille and wheel arches.
Inside, the cabin features sporty, heavily bolstered front seats and a flat-top and flat-bottom steering wheel, adorned with red detailing throughout and GTi badges on the wheels, side skirts, seats, and steering wheel. Materials include faux suede on the door grips, steering wheel, seats, and center console lid, while sections of the seatbacks and steering wheel are finished in genuine leather. The dashboard is trimmed in carbon fiber-style material for a more performance-focused aesthetic.
