Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology – dedicated EV platform, 713 km WLTP range

The Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology has been unveiled, set to go head-to-head with rivals like the BMW iX3 and Audi Q6 e-tron. It’s scheduled to launch in Europe in the first half of 2026 and in Australia in the second half of the same year.

Although it shares a similar name with the combustion-powered GLC, the GLC with EQ Technology uses the dedicated MB.EA platform for electric vehicles instead of sharing the underpinnings with the combustion-engine GLC.

Its design differs from the regular GLC and is distinctly different from other electric models on the EVA platform, such as the EQE SUV. It features a new “brand-defining” chrome grille with a thick chrome frame and smoked mesh insert, along with an illuminated central star and 942 backlit dots.

At the rear, there are star-pattern tail lights similar to the E-Class. Wheel sizes go up to 21 inches, and the LED headlights feature the latest Digital Light technology, offering higher resolution but 50% lower energy consumption. Ultra Range high beams work in conjunction with cornering lights, using camera and map data to adjust beam angles.

Although the GLC with EQ Technology has a more upright design than the EQE SUV, its drag coefficient is 0.26, close to the EQE SUV’s 0.25 Cd.

The longer wheelbase adds 13 mm of front legroom and 47 mm in the rear, while headroom increases by 46 mm in the front and 17 mm in the rear. Boot capacity is 570 litres, expanding to 1,740 litres with the 40:20:40 rear seats folded, plus a 128-litre front storage compartment.

The launch variant, the GLC400 4Matic, features dual motors with all-wheel drive, a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery, and up to 713 km of WLTP range. Energy consumption is rated at 14.9–18.8 kWh/100 km. It supports an 800V electrical system, enabling DC fast charging at up to 330 kW, which can add 300 km of range in 10 minutes. AC charging is 11 kW standard, with 22 kW optional, and the system supports Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) in certain markets.

It produces a maximum of 360 kW (490 PS) and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. A two-speed rear gearbox (11:1 ratio for acceleration/towing and 5:1 for high speed) allows towing up to 2,400 kg. Drive modes include Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual, and Terrain. Regenerative braking has four levels, including One-Pedal Mode. The battery uses less cobalt and is designed for easy service and replacement. A heat pump captures waste heat from the motors and battery to warm the cabin.

The suspension setup features a 4-link front and multi-link rear, with optional Airmatic air suspension and rear-axle steering. The latter turns the rear wheels by up to 2.5° in the same direction as the fronts above 60 km/h, or up to 4.5° in the opposite direction below 60 km/h, reducing the turning circle to 11.2 m. Artificial driving sounds include Fractal Fusion (80s arcade + synthwave) and Granular Fuzz (guitar riffs, orchestral elements, nature sounds, and electronic effects). AVAS pedestrian alert sounds are also selectable.

It features a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen (10.3-inch driver display + 14-inch central display + 14-inch passenger display) supporting over 40 apps and video streaming (including Disney+), with AI from Microsoft and Google. The virtual assistant has a Mercedes star avatar that responds with expressions and gestures.

The vehicle will be built in Bremen, Germany, alongside the combustion-powered GLC, and delivers a two-thirds reduction in lifecycle carbon footprint compared to the combustion model.
